Journaling to happiness and success

Updated: Feb 28

In order to succeed you have to first believe in yourself. You have to believe that you are actually capable of succeeding. This belief starts with training your mind to be positive. And, yes, it CAN be trained. Not only does training your mind help you in achieving goals, but by practicing gratitude on a daily basis you will notice yourself feeling happier overall. I am sure everyone can agree that achieving happiness is the ultimate goal, and the key to living your best life possible.

Austin's Journal Entry for Monday, October 14th

Austin's Experience -

"I used to be in a pretty dark place where everything in my life was negative. I was unhappy, constantly anxious, in my own head, stressed, and hated getting out of bed in the morning. I used to constantly think to myself, "The Universe is out to get me." So of course, with that style of thinking, I kept attracting more negativity.

One of the things that got me out of that negative thinking was journaling. I specifically got the idea from The @fiveminutejournal but never actually bought it. The concept is simple enough so I figured I didn't need to buy their specific journal. So instead I would write it in a blank journal or in my iPhone's notes. This journaling slowly pulled me out of the cycle of negativity."

My Journal Entry for Tuesday, October 15th

Megan's Experience-

"I have always loved using journaling and writing to work through tough times, but I had never thought of doing a little bit of journaling everyday. So after just missing qualifying for the 2016 CrossFit Games Regionals, Austin actually introduced this specific template of journaling to me. Since I have always believed strongly in needing the right mindset in order to achieve goals, I decided to give it a try. I ended up doing this for a full year leading into the 2017 CrossFit Open. I am 99% sure that this mindset shift played a major role in my qualifying for the 2017 CrossFit Regionals."

As we have mentioned before, we always practice what we preach. So while we have taken breaks from journaling over the years, it's something we always go back to for periods of time because it works! We are grateful to pass these tips on to our clients because, as we mentioned before, believing in yourself will help you in achieving your goals. This style of thinking starts with creating a positive mindset and perspective shift, which then has a cascade effect that changes your perception in everything you do- both inside and outside the gym. It's a way to elevate your life and increase your happiness.

As coaches, this is something we often have our clients do. One way we hold our clients accountable for journaling is by creating a separate “workout” for them in True Coach (the programming app we use). We put all the current "Lifestyle Habits" in their day so they are held accountable, since they know we will be checking in and commenting back on it. It's a very powerful tool when done right

and when guided by a coach.
